My 2003 Escape has. Brand new battery, water pump, and both new belts.
Original key, no theft lights.
All three brake lights work.

Will go to "on" as normal. When turning to "start" it does nothing.
Gear selector will not budge from park. The black digital position indicator doesn't show a position. It is in park, and the selector seems to also be in park position. I rolled the car fwd and back to see if it was bound up by weight rolling onto tranny while in park. No luck. Brake lights work.
The most recent changes is the battery died and would not charge back. Replaced battery, now having these problems.
No apparent fuses blown.
No check or warning lights at all.
Remote unlocks and locks as normal.
There is no reason for the engine to be locked up, either. Maybe not powering the starter due to some safety switch? Don't understand why it won't come out of park.
Help, please.

Ps- I am new here, but I did search and read all related posts. None seemed to be my situation, exactly.
