Freestar Battery FYI with Costco replacements
If you need a new battery and was thinking of going to Costco to get a replacement, their fitment book is wrong for Freestars. It will have 4 versions listed.
Year ------Eng.----------- OEM CCA---- Fitment
2007-06--- 3.9L (optional)-- 540--------- 6
2007-06 ---4.2L (optional)-- 650--------- 6
2007-04--- 3.9L------------ 540--------- 7
2007-04--- 4.2L------------ 650--------- 7
All Freestars (years and engine versions) have OEM Motorcraft bats rated at 750 CCA (Cold Crank Amps), the 540 and 650 are from the Windstar years for the 3.0L and 3.8L engines.
If I had kept with their fitment chart and got the number 7 battery for my 04, I would have had a physically smaller battery and one providing only 650 CCA to replace the OEM 750. And once the temps would have dropped below -10 C, it wouldn't be able to crank the engine.
It should read 6 for ALL Freestars, as their number 6 bat is the same size as the OEM and is rated at 850 CCA.
Just wanted to share.
