Default Front Brake Slider Pins questions

I just did my front brakes, including new slider pins for each side.

For each side, one pin is a little longer, the other one is shorter and has a rubber sleeve.

On the driver side, the longer pin was at the bottom. On passenger side, the longer one was at the top. So I replaced them this same way. But is this correct? Maybe a prior owner put them in wrong on one side. Anyone know for sure if both longer ones are supposed to be at the bottom or top?

Also, what is the purpose of the one with the rubber sleeve? It makes the pin not slide as freely. I was tempted to use the old longer ones in place of the new rubber sleeve ones, so they glide freely.

After much searching, here is what I have learned:

1. The rubber sleeve on one pin is necessary to avoid shudder during low speed braking.
2. Some makes put both pins with the rubber sleeve on the top, some on the bottom.
3. Fords put it on the top on the driver side caliper, and the bottom on the passenger side caliper.

So, I was right to replace them the way I found them.
