Default Buying a Fusion - Any tips?

I'm looking to buy a fusion (2008-2012). I have heard of a lot of people having transmission problems with the 2010-2012 models which makes me want to get an older one.

I'm currently looking at 2 fusions both being a 2010 Ford Fusion Sport (heard the sport edition has the old good transmission. Both with around 50k miles for $15,000. One of them is from a private seller on craigslist and the other is from a dealership. So couple a questions.

Don't care about it being the "sport" edition besides the fact I heard it has the older transmission. Tried finding some 2009 fusions in my area with 50k or below miles but couldn't. So looking at those 2 sport editions for now.

1. Any common problems with the 2010 Sport edition? It does have the older less problematic transmission correct? If taken care of do these last 150k+ miles?

2. Both of these fusions are in good condition. How much do you think if at all I could talk down the private seller vs the ford dealer? Buying used from an official ford dealer, I'll get some type of warranty correct? I will probably get an auto loan from my credit union if I buy from the guy off craigslist. If I buy from the dealer I'll probably do the same unless I can save money financing with them.

I bought a 2011 a few weeks ago and love the new six speed tranny. I'm sure there's alot more success stories than bad experiences its just you only see that bad things on the Internet. Most people who are happy don't sit on the Internet praising their transmission....but those who have problems will post it to death.

That being said....I wouldn't fear the new six speed. My 2011 works like a dream.

Default I like my 2011 Fusion SE

I bought my used 2011 in May of this year, 2013, with 28,900 miles on the odometer. I have just over 40,000 miles now and simply love the car. I have not had any transmission issues to date, just some hiccups when I had put a set of Ford Mustang alloy wheels on and with different tire-pressure sensors, there would sometimes be some hesitation shortly after starting to drive the car. I'm getting great gas mileage too.
