02 ranger edge transmission

02 ranger edge transmission
I have an 02 ford ranger edge with an automatic transmission. It will not move in any gear, the speedometer needle is over to right lying down. When I put it into gear some time I can hear a spinning sound as if it is trying to engage. Sometimes when I rev and release as the engine decelerates it tries to move forward a little. Last year the overdrive light would come on but it stopped whenever I would turn it off restart, put in low and manually change gears. That problem stopped. It has plenty transmission fluid. Is it time to get another tranny or can it be repaired reasonably. It has 187,000 miles on truck.

If it is 4 wheel drive it may be a transfer case issue. Also, check to see if the drive shaft is turning. If the drive shaft turns and the truck goes nowhere then is a rear end problem. If it is a rear end or transfer case problem it would still roll even when in park.
