2001 ranger 2.5l 4-cylinder 8 valve engine trouble
Hey everyone. So I picked up this little '01 ranger for a grand about a month ago, has 205k miles and is a standard.
So this started about a week ago, I was heading into town and my truck started having a hard time keeping speed on the slightest incline past 55 mph. The truck had also been miss firing since I got her (the little clicking sound when you give it power in 4th and 5th) and thought I might have burned up some of the cats more sensitive components. So I went for a cheap and easy (and quite annoying) fix and cut the exhaust off before the CAT. The CAT is fine...
I replaced my plugs, and ran her for about 3 days. She was still having a hard time getting up to speed and maintaining it. So I changed my plug wires. Now she is worse for ware.
When I let out the clutch in first gear to get going I have to push the rpms close to 1750 or else the truck will... I want to say bog down?.. drop rpms drastically and the engine sounds like it's only hitting on 2 or 3 of the plugs. Sometimeso it will go almost a full second without hitting anything.
I haven't ran it since I've replaced the wires and encountered this.
When I started the truck today in neutral the idle seemed fine, so I popped the hood and revved it with the throttle body to see if I could hear anything. She sounded fine, wasn't shaking or anything, but when I put it in gear to see what she'd do it was the same story.
Idk if it would be my timing or what?
