Crankshaft pulley removal

Crankshaft pulley removal
Thanks in advance for any replies. I have a 97 ranger 2.3L with a broke timing belt. I have the crank pulley bolt off ( I thought that was the hard part) Now I can't remove the pulley itself. Is there a trick? The pulley has a lip on the front edge that as you tighten a normal 6 inch puller tends to spread the legs and cause the pads to slip off the pulley. Any tips? Once I get the pulley off the rest is easy.

RE: Crankshaft pulley removal
Hmmm... I recall the harmonic balancer was removed with a special puller. It screwed into the holes left by the small bolts holding the pully to the balancer. The center pin was placed into the larger hole left by the crank bolt. You would just turn the center threaded rod/pin to pull it off. ( Am I nuts or just confused with a steering wheel at my old age?)
