I work at an automotive repair shop and the techs there cannot fiqure out why my 94 Ford Ranger continues to overheat after the head gasket has been replaced. My entire cooling system is new. When I drive home, about 15 miles, some stop and go traffic and then speeds up to 65 on the highway, the tempertature has reached H on the gauge by the time I reach my destination. The tech who did the head gasket job claims he let it run for 3 hours and it never got hot. However, idling the vehicle for 3 hours does not replicate normal driving conditions.
There was mention that perhaps the water pump was ordered from Worldpac rather than Napa - and the part was purchased to replace a water pump for a Mazda truck rather than a Ford truck - which has a reverse water pump. The heater does not blow hot air. Basically, the syptoms are exactly the same as before the head gasket was replaced. Overheating, no hot air out of the heater. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Ok i have 4 of those and havent had any problems out of em yet ,do you know if they had the heads magnafluxxed (not sure how to spellthat) for cracks .If you think the water pump is turning backwards take the radiator cap before you start it and see if it trys to blow the water out when you first start it.If not make sure the system is full of water and watch for bubbles as that is a sign of a cracked head or leaking gasket

 

My ranger was overheating and found out that the bottom part of the radiator was not letting water go through as needed. Only overheated when I used the air conditioner. Water going through top of radiator okay but when air was turned on not enough water going through causing motor to overheat,

 

mabye there is an air bubble in your cooling system or was the cooling system cleaned properly or at all its easy u can get a kit at wal-mart to do it for like 5$ when i cleaned mine it had some nasty stuff in it well first drain the radiator fluid o and dont forget the cleaner it should be next to it i think th brand was permatex

 

sounds like a restriction because there is an overheat situation yet no hot coolant going through heater core possibly a bad thermostat is your check engine light on?
