Either look for the axle code on your door tag or look for the tag on your rear end.

Thanx level2 I found the axel code on the door tag. It's an 84 which tells me I have an open 7.5 ring gear and a 3.45 gear ratio. Just had a remanufactured engine and tranny put in but the pinion gear they sent me for the speedometer is way off. i'm registering about 10 miles an hour slower than I'm going and a little over a tenth less on the odometer. Was told once, each tooth on a pinion gear adds about 2 1/2 mph to the speed reading so sounds like I need about 4 more teeth on my pinion gear. Please correct me if I'm wrong as I will be going saturday or maybe friday to get a replacement. again thanx for the info I have had this truck since nov 86 it had 73 mi on it and now has 440,000 on it. Can't complain about it at all!

I'm not sure what to tell you about how many teeth you need for your speedo gear but I will look around and see what I can find.

I don't know the color as I was not there when it was installed. however I put in a call to my son who was there and maybe he remembers or the mechanic remembers. IfI don't hear from them, I will yank it out and check it. Again many thanks!!! By the wayI live in Tx just north of san antone.

I'm still looking for info although I'm not sure I will come up with the answer. My dad lived in Bonham Texas right on Bonham Lake when I was a kid and I spent the summer there when I was about 7 or 8 years old. Bonham is just east of Sherman a ways. I have a good friend that lives in Houston but I haven't been to texas in probably more than 15 years. I live just east of Kansas City Missouri.

Back when my step dad had his singing song writing career take off in the early and mid fifties,we had a farm in unionville. we used to go up for a couple weeks every summer. sure do miss those days. still haven't taken the pinion out and son doesn't know the color but with the info I have (thanx to you) I should be able to get something a lot closer than what I have now

Well I'll be danged LOL....I actually grew up in Centerville, IA just 20 miles north of Unionville MO and lived there for the first 23 years of my life. I was actually born in Cincinnati Iowa which is only 12 miles north of Unionville and I had several friends there. Like the saying goes....its a small world after all.
