I have a 2000 Taurus with the 24 valve engine. Going to work tonight the engine would just stop and not start for about 10 minutes. Then would start up and I would drive for about another 10 minutes and would die again. The check engine light did not light. It has been doing this now all the way into work. Took me 2 and a half hours to get to work what normally only takes 45 minutes.

Check all vaccume hoses for leaks(try to turn on engine and just "hear" the engine for any type of sucking sound and try to find where it is).Sounds like a small amount of air is being pulled in and causing the engine to die and no engine light to come on.I have a 99 taurus and had the exact same problem.I found a small hole in the air vaccume hose that leads to the brakes(the one by the upper part of the firewall,kind behind the engine) which was causing the engine to die after ten minutes.The brakes seemed to work ok but just that small hole caused the engine to stall out.After I fixed the hole,the car is back up to speed and has not stopped at all since.
