97 Taurus 3.8L V6, suddenly die while cruising. Couldn't restart, wait 30 min, it restarted then die
Please help.
My 97 Mercury Sable (similar to Taurus) 3.8L V6 with 120K miles suddenly die. It stalled after 900+ miles while cruising from Oregon to Los Angeles.
Couldn't restart, wait 30 min, it restarted then die again when we drove it.
The service engine soon (CEL) did not light up.
Coolant temperature was normal.
Had it towed to the mechanic, OBD scanner did not find anything wrong.
He started the car for 2-3 hours, engine keep idling fine.
However, when he drove it less than 3 miles, the car die. Could not restarted, had to cool it down, then it restarted. He said the fuel pressure & ignition is good.
A year ago, the car stalled and the dealer replaced the crank sensor.
FYI: the car has the original engine & transmission.
I checked the oil & coolant, no mixing, meaning cylinder head gasket is still good.
Appreciate any advice on the problem or any Ford expert in Los Angeles area. Thanks so much folks.

I'm sorry but I did'nt think they put 3.8 in anything newer than 95. If it is Distributorless Ignition then it is probably your crank sensor again. If it is a distributor ran 3.8 then it could be Igntion control module.
