to TDC or not to TDC

to TDC or not to TDC
I'm working on my 1999 3.0 V6 gas OHV engine. I had a code 0301. Zero compression in cylinder #1. Tore engine apart, had a blown head gasket (from the cooling port to the cylinder) and a broken valve spring on the intake valve. My question is this...
when tourqing down the rockers I have come across 3 different methods
1. the chiltons book says do each cylinder starting with #1 when it is at TDC.
2. Another method says place #1 at TDC and tourque 3 cylinders (dont recall which ones) then rotate crank 360 degrees and tourque the remaining 3.
3. Someone else said that since everything is in the same postion as they were before removal that rotating to TDC isn't necessary, so long as all rockers are tourqed to spec.
Any ideas??????

Number 2 is correct. When you are on top dead center, 3 cylinders will be in position to tprque rocker arms. In other words, all valves on 3 cylinders will be closed. Number 3 is completelyn wrong. Number one is OK, but you have to rotate engine after each cylinder.
