Default What to do to my 1988 5.0 L t-bird???

I have thought of many things that could be done to the engine on this car. I have considered converting it to carburator ( no longer my first option), and to buy a whole kit to convert the engine to a more stronger unit. I am looking to modify the engine to make it more powerful yet keep it as a daily driver. I have heard i should port the cylinder heads but i dont know about that. I just want to start bolting on power but dont want to waste money on stuff that i will later have to get rid of. I would appreciate your help on this matter. Thankyou.
