2000 excursion oil pan gasket
So i had a leaking excursion seemed to be the rear main seal at first, however my mechanic says now he doesnt think it is the rear main seal but rather the oil pan gasket. Some how he seems to think that he needs to pull the motor to do this job, and is now gonna cost me over $2000. Does this sound like something that is correct for a 2000 ford excursion diesel 2WD lifted 6"? I just need to know if this is something that sounds accurate or do i need to find a tech familiar with this truck rather than bmw, porsche? hope someone can help!!!! [:@][:@][:@][:@]

RE: 2000 excursion oil pan gasket
The pan sealingis actually done with a Grey HP silicone only, and nota fitted gasket material.. The bond/seal is generally very strong, and leaks aren't all that common, not unheard of though.. Before condemning the pan seal, look into the engines 'valley' and make sure there aren't any high pressure pump oil leaks collecting, or possibly turbo.. They can mimic a rear main leak as the oil collects in the valley, then leaks on down to theopening in the back of the valley (right rear) and on down the rear of the engine..
