RE: 302 with 351 fireing order???
I believe the 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 firing order was used on all "STOCK" 221/260/289/302 engines from 1962 thru the late 80's. Non-"HO" 5.0's also used this firing order.
The 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 firing order was used on all 351 Windsor engines as well as the 82-up "HO" 5.0 engine.

Without disassembling the engine and checking the crank, the only other way to verifywhich actualfiring order you have would be to pull all the plugs. Then turn the engine by hand and bring cylinder #1 up to the compression stoke. Then turn the engine and check for a compression stoke on cylinder # 3 or 5. This will tell you which crank is in the engine, thus the firing order.

What are you actually looking for or trying to figure out? Is the engine in a vehicle? Is it running? Are you looking to rebuild it? It's either one firing order or the other. Intake doesn't matter as far as firing order, so that can be left out for the time being.

i am trying to figure out how its possible for a 302 to have 351 fireing order. the person i bought the motor from says the bottom has not been touched. and it might have had a cam change. and i really dont think its newer than 82

RE: 302 with 351 fireing order???
It's easy for a 302 to have the firing order of a 351. The 302 is a 5.0L engine. All 1982+ HO 5.0 (A.K.A. 302) used the 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 firing order. If the engine block is in fact a PRE-1982 Hi-Output 5.0/302, then a crank from a 351 was put into the block during a rebuild or build-up. Is the person you bought the engine from the original owner of the engine?
