6 days.... 6 days is all it took her. She had a '96 Sunfire that they got for $3,000 which happened to be her dream car. Got her license Monday, wrecked it today (Saturday). I guess she followed her friend through a 4-way without stopping and either got broadsided or broadsided someone. I heard it third hand so im not so sure. I'm not exactly innocent of accidents though. It took me four months and I rear ended a guy but I was trying not to run over some moron on a bike and I didn't even see the guy waiting to turn left. I didnt hurt his truck though, just my t-bird. But that's all in the past, but running a 4-way, oh man, I bet there was hell to pay in her house that night.

Everyone has their first accident within 6 months of getting their license. Happened to me...

Except I didn't cause it. A drunk driver with a toddler in his car swerved in front of me on a high speed intersection. I flipped his Cherokee over, and the front of my 89 Probe (fun starter car) was gone. By the time he had his breath checked (4 hours later), he was down to a 0.04. If you know anything about Ohio law, 0.08 is an automatic DUI. 0.05 and exerting signs of being drunk can also constitute a DUI, so he got off pretty lucky. Since he had a 0.04 four hours later (assuming your body can metabolize 1 drink per hour), he had roughly a .2 or above driving around with his toddler! His insurance hooked me up cause my dad is an A'HOLE on the phone, which has it's advantages. But one thing my dad told me was "everyone has an accident within 6 months of first getting their license"...happened to me.

not everyone has an accident within the first 6 months of getting their license!
I got mine at 16 and wasn't involved in any accidents until someone hit me going to work one day after I was over 35 years old, and I don't drive like a little old lady either. I just was taught to keep my eyes moving and my mind on my driving and it really helps to keep you out of trouble on the roads. Especially nowadays with all the young kids out there in hot cars and booming stereos who could not hear a fire truck unless it ran over them! Having an accident ain't no badge of honor either, it just shows how stupid you can be sometimes, especially if you were at fault for the accident.

so what! he's making a broad generalization about everybody when he really shouldn't be doing it. nothing personal against your dad or you, but too many parents today make excuses for the actions of their precious children and don't instill in them the thought of them taking any personal responsiblity for their own actions. I think it's just their way of trying to cover for their failure as parents to teach their children moral values after they have bought in on all the liberal BS about child raising and not bruising little Johnnie's fragile ego by showing him early in life that life isn't fair and he can't have his way all the time. being from an older early baby boomer generation, I was raised so much differently than kids today so I don't easily buy in on the usual excuses I heard so many parents use when their little angels get into trouble. My dad was a professional long distance truck driver and he taught me how to drive, and believe me, I was taught to drive defensively at all times. I also clearly understood that if I had an accident and survived it, I would be in for a real good ass whipping when I recovered from any injuries I might have received in the crash. The family car in those days was not to be trifled with by a teenage driver who showed his ass on the road and I understood that perfectly. today too many kids think it is their God given right to have their own car as soon as they get old enough to get a license and it's the parents job to supply them with one. having to earn the right to drive by acting responsibly and behaving in school and at home is a foreign concept to kids today. too many act like the world owns them a living and they are in for a very rude awakening when they leave the nest and go out into the real world and have to fend for themselves.
I'm sorry you had to experience an accident so early in your driving life, but I do hope you learn something from it besides "everybody has an accident within 6 months of getting their license"! Think about it, was there something else you could have done to avoid it?

I've never hit anything. (knocking on wood) I got rear ended while stopped at a light once. The guy got out of the car and started yelling at me. Because it was a stick and I took my foot off the brake. But we both got arrested because the guy pushed me, and I cocked him one right in the jaw. Cop saw the whole thing.

Good times.

Yeah, they wound up letting us go, because neither of us wanted to press charges. But they still towed both cars, and we had to pay the tow and impound fee.

The guys insurance fixed my car, he got the ticket.

The bad part is that had the cop not been at the intersection, I would have been screwed. The guy I punched was about 2X my size. Luckily he never got to take a swing at me.

(Whew)

I hate it when people on ride bikes in the road. There are bike paths, use them.
