Hi all.. I have a 1996 Explorer with 4.0 and an automatic trans. I just started having this problem. After driving for a while the Over Drive light starts to blink and the over drive shuts off. Does anybody know whats going on? Thank you for your time.

Your computer is telling you theres a problem with the trans You'll need to take it to the dealer so they can fix it. The reason why it dosn't blink at first when you start the truck is because your resting the system then. It take a few min. for the computer to know there is a problem.

hope I can be of some help, Ive had that same problem your having now, u have to remember it can b any number things causing the od/off light to flash, however this seems 2 b a common problem with Fords. The first thing u should do is have your truck hooked up to a scanner while driving to b sure, but I suspect your shift solenoids is the cause.

I have a 1996 Explorer XT and the tran went broke. We installed an 2000 tran and modify the end post to accept the velocimeter, and on reverse gear I start to have problem of shifting, sunddenly the od light started to blink.

I took it back to the shop and they test the seleniod but test fine..also they will look on monday something at the back of the firewall that have to do with the electric circuit...I do not know the name...
