I have seen turbo kits around 3000 up 9000. For my mustang it is 5000 for single, and 9000 for twin. If you have to come up with something on your own, I have no idea how hard it would be. I also read something about an x-charger. It looks like a supercharger but supposedly you don't need to do any ECU upgrades, but I only saw it so far for 4.0 ltr.
