Chem -> rear brakes 2004 freestar (4/21/2006 7:44:03 AM)

I am in the process of changing the rear brakes on my freestar. I am having difficult time pushing the “piston” back. Looking at the brake mechanism it looks to me that the emergency brake bracket may be the hindrance. Any suggestions or comments out there?

Thanks for the help

I had the same problem. I know it seems crazy but all you have to do is push on it really hard while you are turning it. I braced the caliper up against the rotor and had somebody else hold it while I put all I had into it. Good Luck!

Can't you just use a c-clamp to push it in, like any other brake job? Let me know....

Yesterday I had this same issue and luckily I found your post. Yes, a heavy duty C-clamp and a lot more force than I would have expected did force the pistons back into the caliper bores. Thanks for your post: I'm not sure what I'd have done if I hadn't read it.

The piston has to be "turned" in clockwise while applying inward force! There is a freakin' tool for that to make life easier.
