In L.A. Valley area, I have seen around 3.20 for 87. It does suck. And something needs to be done, but what I am at a loss. There are so many theories out there, that it is hard to really tell. I GUESS should be a solution is gov't needs to start supporting alternative fuels like E85. It can become cheaper as the industry grows and find better methods to refine. It is biodegradible. The resource can be plenty, by growing more corn crops, and since it can be just used as fuel and not food, they can bioengineer it to grow faster and bigger. Also woudn't have to rely on the world market, since we have plenty of land to grow crops. Hopefully if this can happen, that there is an aftermarket support to convert the vehicles not made for "Flexible Fuel" cheap enough. I would do that in a heart beat on my mustang. From what I read and understand, really don't need to change the motor internal, just the fuel system to handle ethanol because it can corode the fuel systems not made for it. Hmm, maybe I can engineer a cheap conversion kit, make some dough Don't know if you seen this site but here are facts for E85 http://www.e85fuel.com/index.php
