i currently have a '98 4.0 Ford ranger and Im considering raising it up about 3". would it be a bad idea to just go with a body lift kit... ive read some about suspension lift kits, but i dont know a whole lot about them. I was wondering what the benefits of each would be. thanks a lot guys.

I don't have much experience with rangers but I have a Dodge ram 4x4 with a 2.5 suspension and a 3 inch body lift. Both were very easy to do myself (the suspension more than the body). It all depends on what you want and how much money you are willing to spend. To me the body was more for looks and maybe tire size. The suspension is more for performance and off-roading. Hope that helps.

The body lift will cost you alot less than a suspension lift. I have had a 99, 01, and currently a 2004. I have put body lifts on all of them, the 01 had a body lift and suspension lift. The body lift is a good and most importantly cheap way to lift your truck, I cant tell you how many people thought i had a suspension lift instead of a body lift on my 99 and 04. If you go with a body lift do the right thing and get GAP Gaurds, they will hide the gap between the frame and the body, I hate seeing that gap on trucks with body lifts and I think the body lift kit for the 98-99 ranger doesnt come with rear bumper brackets, i cant remember, if it doesnt get the rear bumper lifted with the truck, it just looks cleaner.

i just finishe helping a freind of mine put both a 3 inch body and 4 inch suspension kit on his 97 ford ranger 2wd. the suspension was tricky, on the front end i had to pretty much cut half the underneath away to make the lift fit. now if your is four wheel drive i don't know if it would be as bad. the body lift was farly simple untill we got to the bumper bracket, which took more fabricating of sorts.

both took about the same amount of time and takes some degree of technical skill. both also look good on the vehicle, but like it was said before i would go with the gap guards also. he ordered his lifts from roughcountry and both lifts came with everything needed except the gap guards. hope this helped some

I have to agree with that, seeing a bunch of frame looks like sh!t Go with suspension lift, it'll enhance the offroad capabilities of your Ranger, where as the body lift is posing as if you could off-road.

a body lift is not bad to get bigger tires on it.......and they are not but about $100........if get a suspension lift you get more flex and i think they look better then a body lift
