I'm having a problem with my wifes mustang overheating. Its a 95 with a 3.8L engine. The other day it overheated and before we could come to a complete stop the engine died. When the engine cooled I checked the radiator and it was empty and the plastic bottle was overflowing. I re-filled the radiator and tryed to start it but now it idles real rough. So today I took out the thermostat and tested it and it opens ok, but I noticed that no water came out of there when I opened it. After putting it all together I re-started it and after running for about 1 minute I was going to open the radiator cap but it had pressure already. Could my problem be the water pump? but why would it have back pressure like that in such a short period of time? and could that also cause the engine to smoke when started? every tells me it looks like white smoke when it does that
