So I just bought a brand new CD deck for my car, and I got one of my buddies who is a mechanic to install it. I have an 1987 Tempo. I got the wire harness and the install kit for it, and my friend connected all the wires and all that jazz. He plugged it in and everything and there was power to the deck, but no sound.

It's an older car so we have no idea what it could be. I guess when the car was bought the premium sound system was installed, so there is a small amp in the trunk that gave off 12V to the old stereo.

Anyone have any ideas what could be the problem?
Thanks alot.

The amp must receive a power signal from the stereo turning on to power on and operate the amplification of the speaker sound. Likely it doesn't have an automatic bypass in case of non-power situations - it just doesn't turn any speakers on 'cause it's not on.
