My 2001 Taurus's gauge is not working. It fluctuates constantly from empty to full and in between. My fuel pump(in gas tank) needed replacing and the fuel sending unit is part of the pump unit according to my Ford dealer. This did not fix the gauge problem unfortunately. I checked the fuses. If it is a grounding problem, where would I look? Getting at the gauge from underneath the dash is virtually impossible. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Is this vehicle a "Flex Fuel" model by chance? If it is, the the FF Module under the dash is probably the culprit. If it is not a "Flex Fuel" model, then we will need to investigate further.

Thanks for responding! The car is not a flex fuel so the mystery continues.

There is an anti slosh module located in the dash that may be the problem. Its job is to keep the needle from bouncing around.

Are you really way2old? Thanks for the suggestion. That could be the problem. From what I have found, it is a real pain to replace and the gauge must also be replaced because they are calibrated together. Sounds like a real headache. Think I'll continue to drive 250 miles and filler up.
