Hi All,
I`m having a bit of trouble with my tranny shifting out of first gear along with
my speedometer not working. this happened about a year ago and the check engine
light came on also, I disconnected the pos batt terminal for 5 min. or so and when I
reconnected the terminal the light went off and my problem went away.
I assumed there was a sensor getting weak and that was my problem.
Well it happened again so I had a friend check the code and it was a 0500.
checking the code book said I had a bad tranny speed sensor so I replaced it and the
light went off but the problem remained. any one have any Ideas what this could be?

Larry.

Is the transmission a automatic or manual?

When you said.....I disconnected the pos batt terminal for 5 min. or so and when I
reconnected the terminal the light went off and my problem went away. Was this the transmission shift problem that went away???

Yes and the speedometer started working also, I`m not sure if there is a cable to the speedo
or if its some type of electronic signal.
Also I failed to mention that it will eventually shift but it has to either warm up as I`m driving
or build pressure, I`m not sure.
but if i drive it at an rpm that is high but not excessive it will gradually shift and then work
for the amount of time i`m driving, then if I stop and turn the car off I have to go through
the whole process again.

I suspect the shift modulator is bad.As for the speedometer this may be the same problem. It look's like a internal problem you may have to take it to the shop for this one.

No problem,That seem's like a odd problem especially when two problem's are combined.Let me know the out come. And you can alway's take it to a transmission shop that give's free estimate's.

I had a similar problem on my 03 ZX2 I was going down a hill near my house and it stalled when I started it again the check engine light was on. I took it to the dealer and they said that the code had something to do with the tranny speed, but it quit after I took it in so they didn't see the problem and its been fine ever since.

Ya, I was getting an 0500 code which is the transmmision speed sensor, so I replaced it and no help,
I`m thinking I might have a bad set of wires going to the sensor. Also I checked the codes one more time
because the light came back on and now I`m getting an p1000 and 0100 code, I belive the p1000 is
a vaccum code? the 0100 I`ll have to look up.
