I have a 2000 with a 4.0l automatic and get about 18mpg, 20mpg if it is straight highway driving and stay under 65mph.

I have a 2002 Ranger and the mileage is BAD. If I haul my utility trailer with riding mower I get 9 mpg. Without the trailer I get around 15-16 BUT I found that if I buy my gas in Vermont where there aren't any additives added I get 18mpg. I live in Massachusetts and the gas has 10% ethanol.

I have a '94 Ranger with a 2.3 liter SOHC ,5 speed manual . and a 7.5 inch ring gear in the rear end. I just recently aquired this truck and it was getting about 20 mpg -city and highway mixed.
I just replaced the timing belt and put in new plugs and wires. Whoever had this truck before me had cheap plugs that were not platunium as specified. Also they had the gap set wrong in their cheap plugs. I put irridium (I may have spelled that wrong) plugs in and it seems to be running smoother. Before I replaced the timing belt the rpm's on the tach were running high.
Do timing belts streach with age? I have 137K miles on the odometer. I am just attempting to breath new life into an old truck.
