I'm planning on buying a cold air intake for my 2003 focus ZX3 ... the original one on my car has a plug that connects to it ... if i put an cold air intake(performance one) will something happen ??What about the PLug ?? Will the sensor make the car do stuff like stawling..... ( I've Putted one on my ford escort GT and the car was stawling .... cuz of the sensor ..)

thanks for your replies :)))

yes, that sensor is the mass air flow sensor...if that's not hooked up, the computer in your car doesn't know how much air you're getting...so it will stall or just act really not cool..2 ways to fix this...you can either ghetto rig the stock Mass air flow sensor up to your new intake...or i THUNK ypu can buy some sort of adapter that fits the sensor to the new intake.

i'm not sure so look into it but i think if you buy a name brand intake...a really nice one it might fit without any prblems, but again...look into it...oh, and brand name(when it comes to intakes anyways) does help...most name brand intakes come coated with ceramic....this makes it even cooler than just a piece of piping....just my opinion

Cold Air Intakes are a risk in my opinion. I would just take the Short Ram Intake route. I don't know where you reside but if it rains alot then you will have problems with sucking up water when going through puddles. I'm in NY and I have seen this happen and the engine hydrolocking. You can get the Air Bypass Valve and hook it up to the cold air intakes but I don't trust them. I know many reviews have been written about these Bypass Valves but I don't know. I just don't trust them. There really isn't much of a HP difference in our focuses between Cold Air and Short Ram Intakes since we have the snorkles to draw in cool air. But, if water and rain isn't a big problem in your area, you have many intakes to choose from. AEM, K&N, Volant, FocusSport, and many other brands to choose from. Check out ebay, they usually have alot of K&N intakes and AEM ones. As far as the Mass Air Flow sensor, you will need it, because it sends data to your PCM. Most aftermarket intakes for our cars have a hole where you can install the factory MAF sensor. All you gotta do is take off the MAF and then put it on the aftermarket intake. Check out these sites for intakes....

There's more, but those are the ones I can think of right now. Hope this helps. And keep us updated!
