fuel pump - 10/18/2006 6:52:16 PM    kcahill   Posts: 2 Score: 0 Joined: 10/18/2006 Status: offline I have a 1996 f150 with 268000 km, the truck will not start because the fuel pump will not pump fuel to the engine, I had it towed to the garage, where it was found to be working fine, the mechanic told me that maybe it had a bad ground,after taking the truck home and shutting it off, it would not start,when you turn the key on you do not hear any pump cut in, I have read in your forums about the fuel pump relay. where is this located on this model . It is located on the inner fender well under the hood in a black box called the power distribution box. Try to swap it with the A/C relay it should start up. The fuel pump relay is in the Power Distribution Box under the hood, on/in the left fender apron area.. Relay #2 is fuel.. Check the fuse as well, but wouldn't most likely be intermittent.. And, listen 'very close' when cycling the key to the 'ON' position, or if the starter is 'bumped' for the relay to cycle off with a click after a few seconds or more.. Might help to have someone at the Power Distribution Box to verify any cycling at the fuel relayl.. The relay 'time on' is controlled by the PCM.. You can swap it for the horn relay (#3) to test for a bad relay.. PCM relay should click ON as well with a key cycle/switch to on.. Fuel pumps will/can go intermittent for run times, and sometimes if the pump/tank is bumped moderatly hard by hand with the key ON, the pump will snap back to life, or if jarred being towed ect.. Sometimes even after a 'sit' time.. Also, but not that often, the tank selector or Inertia switch can cause a no run condition for the pump/s.. Has a button on top that 'pops up' should the switch go open from an impact.. Not usually an intermittent occurance, and low failure numbers, but go to know its local if you ever get bumped hard..
