I have been to three different dealers with the same problem at 1500 - 2000 RPM the vehicle makes a drone sound and vibration. I found a TSB with the same problem on Ford 2004 Excursion but nothing for the F150. The dealer has heard the sound but won't do anything because the TSB was for the Ford Excursion not the F150. They have heard the sound and the behavior of the truck but they say it is the way I accellerate. Has anyone with 2004 Ford Excursion with the droning sound and vibration taken their truck into the dealer and they fixed the problem. I need to know how they fixed it. I tried to trade the truck in to get a new one but the same dealer wouldn't give me anything on trade in because of the problem. I need help.

An 04 F150 as well?... Are you referring to TURBO-INDUCED EXHAUST MOAN/DRONE AT 1500-2000 RPM for the 6.0 Diesels? TSB 05-19-12 or previous releases.. Has the drone be present since new? Can you duplicate the drone bringing up the RPM's standing still in P/N, or power braking the truck into that RMP range for a drone? If you can get it to produce a 'unacceptable' drone standing in place, either buy raising RPM's or even power braking the truck, it would help with an arguement of your driving habit.. There is a repair proceedure for the 6.0 applications, but doesn't apply in your situation if the TSB you were reading was for Diesel Excursions/Trucks.. I didn't see one for 150's of that MY.. Most exhaust drones are caused from engine firing pulses, vibrations, that resonate like a tuning fork throughout the exhaust and transfering its vibs through the floor or firewall/cab area.. If you can duplicate the concern 'on demand' especially if stationary , then the source may be able to be pin pointed.. If Ford has no success, or is unwilling to help, you might try some of the higher end exhaust shops.. Exhaust drone has been around for a long time, and many have experienced it.. 'Especially' the high note or deeper exhaust systems.. Some can be cured or managed by pipe neutralizing, extra insulators/hangers added, weights ect. or even aftermarket systems.. I'm 'personally' aware of what the exhaust drone on a 6.0 can be like at its worse, and had a stack of towels on my floor to help insulate from them.. Both my 03 and current 05 'developed' the drone and wasn't there when new.. The 03 was much worse.. The 03 was traded off although was 'managed' with a pipe neutralizing and a re-engineered turbo pedastal, and the 05 was then drone afflicted at about 15K.. It has since had the turbo pedastal upgrade as well as the turbo A-brace installed which zero'd the drone once again..

TSB #17530 -- MOAN/DRONE NOISE AND TACTILE VIBRATION BETWEEN 1500-2000 RPM. *TT (NHTSA ID #10007355, JANUARY 01 2004) This is the TSB I was referring to but my truck is not diesel but 5.4L w/Automatic. The noise and behavior has been a problem since about 50,000 miles and I have tried to fix it for the past 40,000 miles. The transmission is what I think the problem is because this happens at shift points during normal accelleration, but as I have found in my numerous trips to the dealer, if a code has not tripped there isn't a problem. 20 years ago you would look immediately at the torque converter as the culprate but in today's world, if there isn't a code tripped then there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. The dealer has replaced the throttle body, spark plugs, spark plug wires and coil, went through the entire fuel system, updated the program, changed the fluid in the transmission and then flushed the transmission, the list goes on and on at the tune of $4000.00. All the maintenance on the vehicle has been maintained per owners manual so all of the service performed is over and above, that is what is more frustating. The $4000.00 I have put into it could have been a down payment on a Dodge Pickup, which I had a 1996 new body style that I put 320,000 miles on the 318 w/automatic and the only money I put into to it was regular maintenence and then I got $5000.00 in trade-in. I tried to trade the 2004 Ford F150 4X4 5.4L w/AT with 93,000 miles and because of the problem they would give me $2000.00 on a trade in but I took the paperwork in to the dealer and said their service department said that the vehicle is okay and it is just the computer has set it self up to my driving habits. They laughed and said the service department can say all they want that the vehicle is okay but there is a problem and they couldn't get $2000.00 they offered me and they would have to sell it at auction with the problem. This really confirms the problem Ford is having in the marketplace today.
