I am soon to be the new owner of a 1986 F-250 4x4 460v8 but is it bad that during the test drive I had to fill up to make sure I got home?! But i have a 351w that could be the new motor pretty easily. My question is what do you guys get gas mileage wise out of both motors and how much underpowered is the 351 over the 460. It has 35s and both motors are carburated

with the 351 you can buy performance parts mroe easily than you can with the 460, i would think. keep in mind that while you will lose some power with the 351, it is likely much lighter than the 460. my dad had a mid 80s coachmen motor home with a 460...+.060 over...race heads, cam, headers, 4 inch dual exhaust, high rise intake with a race setup carb...600hp on a motor home.

I just picked up the truck and when you romp on the 460 all heck breaks loose so I figure to just leave the truck the way it is and enjoy the power of the 460. Also I talked to one of my buddies with a 351w FI that used to own a 460 that he now misses and he only gets 1-3 better mpg.

I Have a 95 F-350 / 351, I get 15 & 19 at 220000 mi. I use it to pull 9500 lb FEMA homes, I also pull a goose neck with a 12000 lb tractor at interstate speeds. It gets around 8-10mpg with aload. A few bolt ons and its pretty impressive.
