I have a 68 torino with a 302, and lately my car has been dying when I'm in lower RPMs,stoppped at a light, or coming to a stop. I've also started my car, and while sitting in park, turned on my lights and my car has died. It dies more often when I have other things going like lights, radio, windsheild wipers. When it first started doing it, my car would just start right back up, but then it started to die and I wouldn't have any power for like 3 minutes, no lights, horn, etc...nothing. Then I figured out when it died and I had no power, that I could press the horn button rapidly and I would regain power, and I could start my car. I have a new battery, and I have had my fairly new alternator tested on and off the car. On the car it doesn't put out as many amps as it should, around 50-55 and its a 60 or 65 amp alternator, but off the car, the machine says its good. On one hand it sounds like not enough volts at low RPMs, but then I have the problem with totally losing power for 3-5 minutes. I also have a MSD ignition box, possibly a problem there. Maybe a problem with my coil. If anyone has an idea, please let me know. Thanks!

Sounds like a negative battery cable issue of some sort. Try cleaning up both ends of it and see if that helps.

The regulator controls electrical output. It's very likely it could be going bad.
