Hello Everyone,

I have a 98 Escort. My battery light would come on and then a few minutes later it would go off. This happened for about a month. Now it stays on if the car is at idle and when i drive it flashes vigorously. Things that have been replaced

New battery as of 2 months ago.
Switched alternator about 2 months ago.
No calcium on the connectiors.
New connections-tight fit
getting 14.7ish volts from the alternator
getting 12.x volts from the battery

any ideas?

Should i get the alternator benched tested if it's giving 14.7 volts?

Sounds like an alternator problem again, but a quick ? first.  Your battery voltage you haave already mentioned was 12.X  is that with car running?  do you have 14.7 volts at batttery or back of altenator post when vehicle is running.  You might have a bad voltmeter in dash?

yes 12.x from the battery when the car is running and 14.7 from the post while running. Do you still think it's the voltmeter in dash?

There is definitely a problem witht he wiring somewhere.  Most likely to be in the voltmeter in the dash.

arg now i'm only getting 11.x volts from the alternator...i assume that would turn the battery light on?

edit..checked it again and it's at 14.7...weird.. any chance it could be the voltage regulator on the alt?

Altrernator would be the most probable problem, but its hard to make an accurate call with all the variables you keep throwing this way LMAO.
