Check engine light keeps coming on and nothing wrong other then probably the pressure in gas tank reading low and making light come on . It will after some time go out , but it will come back .

Any solution to this?

mine does this, diag. as egr pressure sensor... but i dont really know anymore the wiring in my car is shot

Thank you, I am going to try a long shot and get a new cap.. If not good, then Contours maybe have a problem with failure of the sensor for gas tank pressure??

Have the codes been read? Or are u just guessing this? If you have evap code then it could be gas cap, but it could also be a problem with vent tubes or purge solenoid.

I will switch caps with my 94 Aerostar and see if that makes a difference. I don't know if then I should spend money to fix it or not as the car runs like a top and the problem has been around for a very long time.

Many people don't know that the service engine light only comes on to inform you taht car at that time will not pass emmisions test. If that light comes on and flashes like turn signal this indicates big problems and you will probably notice differences in vehicle performance.

A flashing trouble light! If I saw that I would hit the red ejection button probably.

Did not have it coded and the driver just informed me it went out a couple weeks ago. Now I am really confused and going to assume it was the gas tank pressure sensor and maybe her twisting the cap tighter fixed it when she filled up? Manual says it may come on and will go out after about 4-5 starts sometimes...This problem and the plastic water pump fan blades breaking off make this model a little iffy. That pump problem caused massive overheating and was a $200 job to find and fix.

Otherwise it is a joy to drive and have with the 24 VOHC V6 power and 30 MPG on the freeway.
