I am looking to buy a new SUV. At the moment there are really only four options. A Excursion, A Expedition, A Tahoe or a Suburban. I need something that is VERY HEAVY DUTY! The vehicle MUST be able to carry 2,000 lbs. on its own suspension for the entire length of the vehicles life. It needs to be able to do it without braking down under normal use. I am a car audio installer and I plan to put a very large system in a vehicle of my choice. So my question is, can a Excursion handle 2,000 lbs. that is approximately centered in the vehicle for its whole life? Is the suspension rated to handle that much weight? What’s the GVWR of the Excursion with the V-10? Also what axles come on the 4WD version with the V-10? Also what type of fuel mileage can I expect in town from one of the Excursions with the V-10's with 2,000 lbs of weight on it? And how much would adding a cold air intake add to the MPG? Do the Excursions have any known faults with them (common problems)? I am just wondering if I get say a 2000 model with around 100,000 miles if I am going to have to replace a new trany or engine or something after a year or so with the weight? And lastly, of the four choices above, would the Excursion be my best option in your opinion?

Excursion would be the 'only' choice IMO.. Other than a E350+ Van ;) Here's a link to some technical info the 2000 X.. Might answer some of your questions.. http://www.hillerford.com/Web%20Pages/resource%20library/2000/2000suv/00excursion.pdf The X is a pretty tough battle wagon.. The 6.8 (Fords Tritons) have had some problems with spark plugs blowing out 'with' the threads from a design flaw or lack of, and a few other issues, but a 'good' solid performer.. Not all with issues, but well documented.. Mileage :( especially carrying lots of weight, but plenty of power to do the job .. Also, the 4R100 auto transmission is an 'adequate' unit, and a decent contender if it's be serviced at regular intervals.. They can be built to be a solid trans though..Used in severe duty, or not service regularly they can suffer a bit from a shorter than desired life span.. Service/docs and user history (heavy towing ect) when concidering a purchase would be a big plus for any higher mileage truck..
