If you're not picky about wether it is brand new or not, go to the junk yard.

If you don''t already own a Ford (or Ford owned product), get one.

I've tried that. Apparently these are a common mishap on the 93 f150 because nobody seems to have them. A new one costs about $270 and i really don't want to put that much into the truck as I will be trading it next year.

Try eBay or something along those lines to see if you can find one for sale.

also, i live in pennsylvania and my rear fenders are rusted out. i am going to put a new bed on it. any suggestions on how to preserve my fenders fron the salt and calcium? i was considering using a paint-on bed liner inside them. would this work? any other suggestions?

Paint on bed liner will help, but it may not be the ultimate solution.  One big part of the problem is the chrome trim that beecomes a nice shelf for snow and salt.  And if the trim isn't there, the snow and salt still find a nice place to call home inside the wheel well/fender.

I feel your pain, I live in Wisconsin and I have the same issue.  I'm see through in the rear fenders.  Someone I know from Georgia saw my truck and asked me if there were termites in Wisconsin.

Another note for the lever piece you are looking for, you might be able to contact a dealer and see if that part was used on any other model of truck (probably the Bronco).  You may be able to find it at the junk yard then on a different vehicle.  Just a a thought.

I found one on a '89 f-250. The Bracket on the transfer case was a little differant ( instead of pushing the lever "down" between Neutral and 4L you push it to the side instead ) after some minor modifications I got it to work.

As far as the bed is concerned, if I decide to replace the fenders is it easier to get a whole new bed, or just replace the side panels?

ps. thank you for all of your help with this it is much appreciated!!

If the fenders are in bad shape, it may be worth replacing the whole bed.  Climb under the truck and see what condition it is in.  It may be pretty well rusted on the bottom side.
