Greetings, and thanks for the replies. I've got a 1991, f-350, 7.3 diesel. I've had the truck over a year now. The oil pressure guage has always read on the low side of normal, even after I had the oil pan and oil pump changed last March 2006. Recently the guage reading has become worse, now staying constantly BELOW the "Normal" range indicated on the dash. The guage is functioning somewhat in that it does move up when the truck is started. If the actual oil pressure is good, what could cause the guage to read abnormally low? Thanks.

The guage part that mounts on the motor (pressure sender) is likely dirty or shot. Get a new pressure sender.

Hey GoingStrong, thanks for replying. If I may trouble you with one more question. I am somewhat of an amature. Can you please tell me where on the 7.3 diesel engine the oil pressure sender is located? I'm not exactly sure what it looks like. Thanks again

Back of the block, behind the intake, going from the passenger/right side... Single wire 'bell' type sender.. 9/16 hex under the bell portion..

It usually looks like any thread in sensor only they usually only have one wire. Although I couldn't guarantee seeing as how some newer vehicles had electrical tie-ins to shut down the engine in the case of oil pressure loss. I guess I lost touch after the 80's, early 90's. I've seen them in two different styles. Does your truck have an oil gauge - or just a "dummy" light that comes on for low oil pressure? This will make a difference in the style of sender you'll have in connection with it. Gauges usually have a metal casing around the sender unit for the pressure sensing components. Dummy lights usually have plastic parts' housing and it's just more of an on/off switch.

P.S. If antifreeze or fuel is coming out the hole - put it back it's the wrong one. If oil comes out - that's normal. Just try to have the other one handy to plug in. Also the easy way to ID what you need to replace is to look at the new one.

Hey Guys, thanks again for the replies. I will take all this information and look into this. Oh, and by the way this truck does have an actual oil pressure guage, not a "Dummy" light.
