First - sorry but 2000 Rangers don't have carburetors. Next - the only engines that have gunk (carbon buildup) are high mileage or have bad piston rings from being run low on or without oil or shot valve seals just from being a high mileage engine (valve seals should be replaced in around 100,000 to 150,000 miles to eliminate chances of carbon). The main reason for carbon build up is basically your engine is close to shot and it's telling you "I need new parts to NOT be worn out". Aside from rebuilding get a set of resistor spark plugs so they don't get fouled out by all the blowby. If the carbon or "gunk" was that heavy you should have likely already considered rebuilding (or at least a re-ring kit and set of valve seals provided your bearings and cam/lifers are all good/usable). You can crap all over my first notions - but over 30 years of fixing cars is a decent reason to listen better. I'm much not the student any more. Plus - why pay all that money for nothing if her engine has lowish miles? My question is - what are the miles? I could be wrong about buildup provided it has well over 100,000 miles.

I appreciate everyones help with my truck problems. After installing the main computer and not getting any reading it dawned on me that one has to have a source of electric to that computer so after checking all the fuses which run to it- there must of been one knocked loose or something??? But taking them out and putting them back in has seem to fix the problem. She is starting just fine now.
