I have a 99 explorer 6cyl 4.0 sohc and this past summer no problems. This winter nothing but problems. CEL was on and I put a new idle air control valve on and the next day it did not idle any different. Matter of fact it doesnt idle at all when it is cold. Turn the key, start it, and it idles high for about 2 seconds and shuts right off. I was told it could have been the temp coolant sensor. I put it in and still no different. The CEL was cleared before I put both new parts in. I started it the next morning and still no difference. Now the CEL has come back on and I went to autozone and the CEL code was reading idle air control AGAIN. I told them I replaced it and they gave me a new one and I put it in and had the code cleared and still no difference. The CEL is now back on. What could it be? It has 88000 miles on it. I have replaced fuel filter, wires, plugs, oil and filter, thermostat, flushed radiator and block 3-4 times, new antifreeze, idle air control valve, and temp coolant sensor? What is wrong with this thing ? I am getting ready to shoot it and put it out of its misery.
