Hi Everyone,

I noticed that on the 2007 Expeditions, they added a "Line In" to the factory radio - YEAH!  However, I bought a 2006 :(

I would love to add some type of "Line In" connection to my 2006 to connect my iPod.  I noticed that the in-dash 6-disc radio has both an SAT button and an AUX button.  Currently, I have the satellite radio hooked up and working great.  I don't have the factory installed DVD flip down screen and player, which is what I assume you would use the AUX button on the radio for.  Is there a way to hook up a "Line In" to the AUX input of the radio?

I checked online and found a couple of solutions, that I think will not work the way I want.  The first is from Ford and is called the Trip Tunes (part: 6R3Z-19A464-AA).  It looks like it connects through the radio antennae and uses a couple of radio stations to get the audio to the stereo through FM modulation.

There is another solution called PIE: http://www.pie.net/store/index.cfm?action=ViewDetails&ItemID=206
This connects to the iPod through the USB connection and uses the SAT features of the radio to actually control the iPod and display the iPod information on the radio.  This is cool, but then I loose the satellite features.  All I REALLY want is a "Line In"!

Is there a way to tap into the AUX feature of the radio to give me a line-in?  I haven't found anyone who can give me a straight answer.

Thanks,

Jordan

Auxiliary. Is that auxiliary in or out. If it's auxiliary line-in then there 'ya go. Anything that uses the radio speakers plugs in by line-in. Make sure first though that it's not auxiliary out (out to extra speakers) or you'll fry something.

hmmm... Good questions.  I would assume that it's an AUX-in since there's a button on the panel.  It doesn't make any sense to have an AUX out button, but I could be wrong.

If it is an AUX-in, I have no idea which wires in the back lead to the AUX in.  Does anyone have the wiring specification for the wire harness?  Or even some details on the factory radio?

Here's a little more information.  The name of the radio, according to the manual is "Audiophile/Premium Satellite Compatible AM/FM Stereo In-Dash Six CD/MP3 Radio".  It also says this about the AUX button: "Press to toggle between the current playing media and DVD (if equipped)".  I'm assuming that there has to be a way to trick this input into thinking that it's playing audio from the DVD player but really playing a Line-In source from an iPod.

Hi Jordan..

Your correct with the PIE adapter.. The adapter plugs in between the radio and connector.. That connection is can bus and needs to have the module that the PIE adapter has for interface..  I'm running a Magellan 6000 GPS with MP3 and play both the GPS commands as well as music through the trucks system.. Once the device is installed, you just 'select' AUX and it will read what device is plugged in, or PIE ect.. Is your SAT adapted into the 16/24 plug?
