Self Test (hard) fault 051.... Run Time (Intermittent) fault 053

Code description.... Solar Radiation Sensor Open

My AC don't have a solar radiation sensor and I'm glad it's old once again. Besides - instead of pretending - why not call it a heat sensor? What solar radiation is really penetrating the hood? Or is this a cabin sensor to detect heat transfer through the glass?

finaly replaced sensor still will not cool when hot out cool out compressor willl run and make ice cubes get warm compressor cuts off and will not comeback on regard less of temp settings freon seems to be ok by gauge

enibum -> RE: A/C question 01 taurus (4/26/2007 2:50:16 AM)

I was curious, what does your engine temp look like when the A/C won't work? I think some cars have built in protection that will not allow the compressor to kick in if the motor temp is too high.

according to gauge on dash never more than center of travel

I'm probably blowing smoke out in left field on this, but are your cooling fan(s) working properly?  I believe that one of them is tied into the A/C system to come on when setting at an idle state such as in stop and go city driving.  This keeps air flow across the condensor.  Time to get a copy of the electrical shop manual and start tracing electrons.  Good luck.
