Hi I own a 1997 Ford Taurus GL. For the past few months I've been having problems with my radio speakers going out and sometimes the loss of power steering when I am in reverse and drive. When I'm in Park or Neutral everything works fine. I figure there is something in my steering column/shift lever that is messed up.
Has anyone else run across this problem with there Taurus? I want to take it to a Ford Dealership to get it fixed...I just want to know what I'm talking about when I do.

This is due to your, parking shift lever position (range sensor). The part cost about $24 at parts store.

I had the same problem with my 97 GL . When I put it in reverse the radio speakers would shut off. I replaced the range sensor and it fixed the problem.
