I just picked up a new to me 02 Sport Trac and so far I am very happy with it.  One thing I cannot stand is the auto lock feature.  I found the key pad code and have the manual with the steps to disable it and its just not working.  I do not get the confirming chirp.  The steps taken are:

1) enter factory code, after the code is entered
2)hold down the 3.4 button, with this held in also push the 7.8 button.
3)while still holding the buttons release the 3.4 button and then the 7.8

Is their another way to do this with the ignition?

I really need to disable this as its driving me crazy!

Thanks.

Autolock and Horn Chirp Programming

Using the Keyless Entry Keypad
  1. Enter the five-digit permanent entry code into the keyless entry keypad.
  2. Within five seconds of entering the code, press and hold the 7/8 button on the keypad.
  3. Within five seconds of Step 2, and while holding the 7/8 button, press the 3/4 button on the keypad and release it.

   4.   NOTE: If the autolock is disabled, the horn will chirp once. If the autolock feature is enabled, the horn will chirp once shortly and then sound a second time with a longer sound of the horn once the above sequence is completed.Within five seconds of Step 3, release the 7/8 button on the keypad.

Using the Ignition Lock Cylinder
  1. Make sure that the anti-theft system is not armed or triggered
  2. Close all doors and windows.
  3. Confirm that the ignition key is OFF.

4.NOTE: Steps 5 through 9 must be carried out within 30 seconds.Turn the ignition key from OFF to RUN.
   5. Press the door lock control switch UNLOCK button three times.
   6. Turn the ignition key from RUN to OFF.
7.Press the door lock control switch UNLOCK button three times.
   8. Turn the ignition key from OFF to RUN.
   9. Verify that the horn chirps. This indicates the enable/disable mode and now is ready to accept program changes.
  10. Press the door lock control switch UNLOCK button then the LOCK button one time to command the module to toggle the autolock/relock feature.
  11. Verify that the horn chirps. There should be one chirp indicating that autolock/relock feature has been disabled. If one chirp is heard, followed by a longer sound of the horn, the autolock/relock feature has just been enabled.
  12. Turn the key to the OFF position or wait 2 minutes to exit the enable/disable mode.
  13. Verify that the horn chirps once to indicate that a feature has been changed and that autolock/relock has been toggled.
