I bought a 93 Mustang convertible with a 4 cylinder cuz I liked the way it looked. Is there any thing I can do to the engine to give it more zip, shy of pulling it out and replacing it with a 5.0?
I would prefer something that can be bolted on or changed in the computer, but a swap with a V-6 is not out of the question.

As a kid I had a '83 ford ranger with a 2.3L. After it died I bord it out .030 over, had the crank cut and balanced, chopped a little of the head and port match it to the intake and exhaust, added a cam from ford motorsports, put an adapter plate on the manifold for a small 4 barrel holley, and added a header with a larger exhaust system. I'd say she put out somewhere a little over 100HP. Fastest little truck, not one mini truck could catch her, even a toyota supra had trouble passing me doing will over 100mph.
I'd say if you want to keep the engine and boost the HP then add nitro. If you want more add a turbo and intercooler. Or you can go all out, do the engine mods, add the turbo, intercooler, nitro, and bigger exhaust.
Check out what these guys did:

Since you are dealing with a 4 cyl, a good way to help pep it up is to remove as much "load" from the engine as possible. Switch to an electric fan, and if you live in a nice climate area bypass your a/c compressor by getting a shorter belt. Every little bit helps.

y first mods, I would go with CAI and exhaust. Lookk at replacing the underdrive pulley as well. Also once you have that, check out Diablosport - Check out the Deltachip to see if taht is what you are looking for. Also check Jet Chip. They have a performance chip.
