I recently bought a 2002 F-250 Super Duty 4 door 4wd with 5.4 l v-8 engine. I was told that it had a one ton rear suspension in it and didn't think much about it until the drive shaft bearing went bad at approx. 30,000 miles. I went to the parts store and purchased the bearing the books called for then went home and proceeded to remove the drive shaft. After removing the shaft and taking the yoke off of it the bearing, which should have been pressed on fell off from gravity. When I tried to install the bearing that I purchased it was about 1/4 inch to small across the diameter of the shaft. The shaft I have mic'd out at 1.5 inches. The bearing they sold me mic'd out at 1.3. I called several parts stores and they all told me that the part number I had was the only drive shaft listed for a f-250. I asked them to check under the f-350 and two bearings were listed. First was the same bearing as listed for the f-250 and the 2nd was for a drive shaft that measured 1.5 inches. I was told that it was possibly for a Cleveland rear end. My question is does anyone have any idea how this truck would have been configured? Is it a heavy 3/4 ton special order or what? I have to confess my ignorance about Fords because I have always owned Dodges. That is until my daughter was hired by Ford Motors as an engineer. I switched to Ford to display a little family unity. If someone can tell me what I have to make it easier to order parts and accessories in the future I would sure appreciate it.
