I have a five speed transmission but for some reason 2,4, and R will not work anymore. The clutch isnt slipping because 1,3, and 5 gears work just fine. So is that the shifter itself or would that be the transmission

I have the same type of shifting problems with a 94 1.9 manual 5 speed. Any suggestions? Hopefully by now you have resolved your problem. Thanks

I have a 95 that was given to me with 142,000 miles on it. The shifting was so bad that you couldn''t tell what gear you were in. The good news is that it costs less than $40 to fix and is simple. Go to the ford dealership and buy new shifter bushings (for the linkage). They come in packs of two for like $12. I replaced the ones below the stick and still need to do the front (another $12). I''m guessing the front is the same as the back cause thats what they sold me. I bought extras cause they will probably discontinue like everything else.

To do the ones on the stick, take the center console off (easy just need a phillips head screw driver)
2) losen all bolts holding stick in (this will make it easier to change the bushings when you crawl underneath the car)
3) Get under the car
4) There is a heat sheild above the exaust, remove it (or at least take out some bolts and get it out of your way)
5) Its easy to move the exaust out of your way by going around and pulling it out of the rubber things that support it.
6) Remove the nut and bolt on the bottom of the stick. (there are supposed to be two bushings there, they are probably gone all together)
7) Put new bushings in and put it back together.
8) figure out how to do the front, I haven''t gotten there yet.

Almost shifts like new having only done the back, can''t wait to do the front. All together sounds tougher than it is, take about an hour or less. Good luck.
