I have a 2004 Ford Ranger Edge 4.0L 4x4 Supercab that has 40,000 km's on it.

Dealer says both front lower ball joints are toast and need replacing.

They also said two rear pin seals are leaking in the back, I have no idea what those are or what they do.

Total damage $800 parts and labour.

I'm disappointed that a 3 year old truck already needs replacement parts. This is the first time I've needed repairs of any kind. I do not run the truck hard, and I do not go off-roading for fun, however I have driven the truck on plenty of dirt roads with potholes, as some of our highways are not paved around here.

Should I be disappointed with the length that the ball joints lasted or is this about normal?

This was my first new vehicle purchase, I had hoped it would be paid off before it started needing repairs. These kind of things make me wonder if another brand would have been more durable in the same conditions.

Thoughts?

Thanks
YK
