Hello-
I was wondering if this would work or not. I am not really up on all the Ford motors as I most am a Chevy guy but do tinker with a Ford ever now and then. Anyways my question is this. I have a 70 ford Galaxie with a 351C motor. My friend has a 77 T-Bird with a 351M motor but thinks he sucked a value in it. I was wondering if the heads from my 351C would work on the 351M motor in his T-Bird?

Thanks!

I believe the 351M is a 351C Modified from the factory into a 400. Some parts differ. Heads may fit - try as a whole set with the intake - may be easier as I'm not sure the head to intake angles match perfectly? so it would make it easier as long as your head bolt holes line up. Also check piston protrusion and valve clearances. I'm drawing a blank right now on what all was modified aside from piston and heads.

Hello

Yes, the heads will fit. How-ever you would be better of to swap the entire engine.
If you have a FMX trany just change the bell housing to the small housing. If not get a C4 or AOD to transplant.

The 351M blocks & heads had a cracking problem.
A 351M is a 400 engine with a 351W crank rebalanced. The two engines (351M & 400) share all parts except the Crank & pistons only!
even the rods are the same.

I had a 77 Thunderbird with a 351M & FMX, I also had a 78 Cougar with a 400.

I currently running a 90 t-bird 351W, AOD & 3.90 rear gear. I race on an 1/2 mile asphalt oval track.

Paul

Cleveland, Modified and Windsor. 3 types. The 351 Windsor is the most common and probably the best all round motor, comparable to the chevy 350, although many would argue the Cleveland is a better racing motor. While you can rod just about anything the Modified is not considered a performance motor and has few aftermarket parts available. Just my 2 cents.

Like I said it's called a 351 Cleveland Modified (351C Modified). No - not to good to downgrade a Cleveland to a C-4 from a bigger trans. I'd use a C-6. Some 351 Windsor small blocks even came from the factory with a C-6 just because the C-4 stock isn't made to handle the power as well (unless you upgrade internals like the sun gear and clutch plates and keep it tight).
