In short - I'd say don't bother unless the parts you put in the engine are designed for use with a supercharger. The increased loads a supercharger imposes are not easily absorbed by all standard engine components (gaskets, some piston heads,etc.). It might even work for a while - but it's not worth wasting the effort to only end up blowing up the motor. Superchargers can be full time or intermittant how ever you like. If you must put a supercharger on a motor not meant for it - at least go with a lower pressure one. Also keep in mind that some superchargers (like turbos) may need regular bearing service work done (no matter how much you hate doing it). On the bright side - a supercharger is 50 times less likely to be the own cause of it's demise (not including if you make a mistake in putting it together).
