Have just bought a 2004 freestar, and upgrade from a '92 Aerostar, hope this one is a good as the last.

Having a problem with the parking sensor... When I start the van, the sensor appears fine, and I can turn it off and on. Once I put it into gear, reverse or drive, it switches off by itself, and won't turn back on until it's shut off and restarted.

Not sure how to go about tackling this..Any ideas on this one?

My 04 did the same thing 3 different times.  1st two times a had failed sensors due to winter crud/salt and the 3rd time the dealer replaced the control module for the back-up sensors.

Had a chance to look at the sensors, any ideas on the best way to get at them? Do I have to remove part of the bumper, or can I get at them from the outside...?

Regards,

Solved this one if anyone else runs into this.

Bought new sensor off ebay, then removed the bumper covering. This was done by removing the screws on the bottom of the liftgate door, and the 2 screws on each side of the rear wheelwells.

Then I simply replaced one sensor at a time and tested it until I found the one that was malfunctioning (it was the 2nd one). I then re-assembled, and working like a charm.
