I have a 2000 Ford Focus SE... when I stop or slow down .. the idle is rough and sometimes stalls... the check engine light was on ...but once the battery cables were cleaned the light went out.... but the idling/stalling problems remains. Help?

My 2005 has had this same problem about 15 times in the past year. Ford tried telling us it was "bad gas", then they blamed us saying we "must have driven through a low water crossing" when we hadn't. Now they have no explaination and are really just giving us the runaround and not fixing our car. I've been taking it to the dealership every time it acts up and the check engine light comes on so that I have documentation of the incidents. Hopefully it gets fixed soon on BOTH our ends!

does it stutter when u try to accelerate... especially uphill? i might also have ur problem

If it runs fine while your on the gas, but not a idle I would check for any vacuum leaks around the intake manifold. Probably wont hurt to cheak any other bvasic things: clean out the throttle body, run some fuel injector cleaner, and replace air and fuel filter if they haven't been done in awhile, etc.
